Speaker profile

After studying Arabic at university, Philip spent five years in various Middle East countries with a large multinational in a sales and marketing role. He subsequently returned to London to take up the role of Head of the Middle East and Africa Department at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), where he assisted British companies in developing their business interests throughout the Middle East and Africa.

He then joined the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) as Middle East Editor, writing and editing political and economic country reports. During the four years in this role, he covered numerous Middle East and North African countries, from Morocco, to Sudan and the Gulf.

He continued to cover the region as an independent Middle East analyst, before rejoining The Economist as Associate Director MENA, at the Economist Corporate Network.
